The operation
From tractor unit to rigid truck
The conversion consists of cutting the chassis in the wheelbase area and replacing the side members to the agreed dimension.
The road tractor unit is built to pull a semi-trailer and has a very short chassis behind the cab. Converting it into a rigid truck gives it a chassis of usable length, on which a dropside body, a compactor or a crane can be fitted.
The length of the new side members is agreed before the work, because it determines the distribution of the loads on the axles and the body that the chassis will be able to take.
